hearth room in the fall

It has been too long since I've posted photos of our hearth room. It happens to be my favorite room in the house, & I finally got around to snapping some new pictures this morning.

I spend every morning in this room with my coffee, breakfast & Bible. It has been the coziest little room in our home. Once the weather gets cooler we have the wood-burning stove going most nights.

Here is an oil painting I did a couple of months ago. I nailed a few old boards together that were sitting in our garage & got to painting. I like the color it adds to the room.

This trunk was the first piece of furniture we bought together before getting married. We scored it off of Craigslist for $50.

I got this sunflower pillow cover at the Pottery Barn outlet in Memphis a couple of years ago.

This apothecary table was actually left in our basement by our house's previous owners. I love it! I got the lamp at TJ Maxx last year, the birds from Marshall's & I painted the pear.

Gentry bought me a new camera lens for my birthday, so the following pictures are basically me just playing around with it. :)

Little plant from Ikea.

Wicker pumpkin from Target for $2.50.

Little chalk board I made last week.

birthdays & goodbyes

My sweet parents came in town for my birthday weekend two weeks ago. They took Gentry & I to a nice dinner on Friday night & we had cake at home afterwards.

On Saturday I opened gifts that my family sent along with them, including my favorite coffee from Birmingham.

The following Monday (Labor Day) my sweet friends & I went to brunch at Wild Eggs for my birthday. I am so thankful for these women!

The next weekend we had a going away party for our friend Scott. He is moving this week & we are all sad to see him go. Our night consisted of corn hole, football, blankets & coffee.

& for some reason this happened...

Gentry & I are so thankful for the kind friends the Lord has brought into our lives here in Louisville. It was sad to say goodbye to both Scott & Casey, but we thank the Lord that they are leaving to serve him.

entertainment center

Well, they did it. Gentry & his dad built an entertainment center & dividing wall in two weeks. I'm amazed, & it looks incredible!

Here is the living room when we first saw the house in December 2010:

This is actually the exact place that the entertainment center now sits. Since our home was built in the late 60s, the house didn't really have a natural place for a television. We don't watch t.v. very often (other than for movies and football games - Roll Tide!), but the only place that a t.v. would go was on an imaginary wall in between the dining room & living room that only I could see in my head. This might be a problem for most people, but I am lucky enough to have a husband & a father-in-law who can build anything as long as you can draw it out for them.

We had this set up for a year while we worked on other projects in the house:

The next series of photos are of the building process.

my finger got in the way :) oops

Then the television went in:

& here is the finished product:

notice the new gallery wall on the left!

& there you have it! We now have an amazing entertainment center & room divider all in one! It definitely makes a huge difference in both rooms!

sneak peak

Last week the view from our living room into our dining was pretty unattractive.

Things are looking up this week. Check out the current view.

Project entertainment center is in full swing! Detailed post to come!
